Rest in Peace, Davis Wilson
Guitarist Dean Granros in the New York Times
I just stumbled across this New York Times review of the recent NYC Winter Jazzfest Marathon. It is indeed wonderful to see a positive review of multiple friends from the AQ scene (including Dave King, Brandon Wozniak and Anthony Cox) but I think that the highlight of this review of Vector Families is Nate Chinen's colorful take on guitarist Dean Granros: "A visionary oddball, [... who] felt beamed in from another dimension." You can find Dean's website at www.deangranros.com. -- Al Iverson (Photo: Don Berryman)

Remembering Gary Berg
We're very saddened to hear of Gary Berg's recent passing in 2020. Gary was a fantastic saxophonist, a pretty good MTC bus driver, and spent many nights sharing his love of good music with the patrons of the Artists' Quarter. We will miss him immensely.

Davis Wilson interview from 2006
If you know the Artists' Quarter, you know Davis Wilson. The man at the door, but much more. When the Star Tribune recently called the AQ “the jazz club that actually feels like a jazz club,” I'm sure they had Davis in mind when referring to the “charming old-timers.” His wit, charm, and occasional rant have long endeared him to many of us. On occasion of his upcoming birthday (his 70th), I sat down and interviewed Davis to share just a bit of his back story with you.
