Friday, March 19 - Saturday, March 20, Eric Kamau Gravatt & Source Code (9 pm, $12).
Thursday, 18 March 2010

Image"Eric was the one. Miles wanted him, but he came with us in Weather Report. Eric is teaching now, and he is still explosive when he speaks. He had bounce in his rhythm that would bounce off the floor and carry the music up to the ceiling. He had this ethnic sound - the continent of Africa - but with grace. He has a dignity and the flavor of Africa, and of metropolitan cities, all with the element of surprise." - Wayne ShorterImage

Eric Kamau Gravatt is known around the globe for his incredible drumming work with Weather Report , Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner (with whom he still tours) and many others.  EImageric was raised in Philadelphia, and has lived in the Twin Cities for several years.  (His local performances, however, are as rare as his talent.  Road work with McCoy and other musical ventures keep him off Twin Cities stages for the most part.)    The powerful Source Code interprets the works of artists like John Coltrane and Jackie McLean.  In addition to Eric Kamau Gravatt on drums, Source Code reads Mary Louise Knutson (piano), Dave Leigh (trombone), Jim Marentic (sax), and Ron Evaniuk (bass).
