ImageIrv Williams is a Minnesota tenor saxophone treasure who, at 90 years of age, refuses to slow down.  His latest CD Finality was named one of the best local albums of the first half of 2008 by Chris Riemenschneider in the Star Tribune.  The only jazz artist on the list, Irv was listed among rockers, hip hoppers and acoustic darlings who are, in some cases, less than a quarter of his age.  But then again, true “cool” is timeless.  Since 2004, Irv has released four albums, and each has been a fixture on “best of” lists. His burnished tone should have earned Irv the nickname “Mr. Warmth,” but Don Rickles already claimed that one.  Don’t miss “Mr. Smooth. Here is a video of Irv at the AQ:
