An early set at 7 p.m. features "The Tesfa Quintet" with Dejen Tesfagiorgis on Saxophones, Adam Meckler on Trumpet, Jesse Mueller on Piano, Adam Tucker on Bass, and Jaky Nyberg on Drums and friends. Starting at 9 pm, Hot Dish, the Cory Wong Quartet and the MN Free Music Society Allstars. Berklee College of Music graduate Scott Bauer (guitar, vocals) created Hotdish after returning to Minneapolis to re-connect with the amazing and underrated Twin Cities music scene. The homecoming led to the discovery of drummer Ryan Cihlar (Willie Waldman Project), and McNally College of Music grad Eric Struve (bass, vocals). The raw power and energy of Cihlar’s drum-work and the cerebral yet funky bass lines created by Struve were a perfect counterpoint to Bauer’s melodic guitar. The band was born. The recent addition of keys whiz Brian Patterson (Loco Macheen, The Dewayn Brothers) gives the band a fresh new layer of color to their sonic palette. An Artists' Quarter regular, guitarist Cory Wong performs weekly with the early Tuesday night band. He recently released his debut recording, Even, Uneven, and appeared at the AQ in January as part of the Jazz Guitar Hero Weekend. This young professional musician keeps busy as a performer, composer, arranger, producer and teacher. Check out this video of Cory performing his original composition: "Even, Uneven" www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrBd4wMzjGU and this one from Jazz Guitar Hero Weekend in January: "Blue in Green" www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBsuFY5NcgE The Free Music Society is an experimental, improvised music collective. The Society typically performs in rotating quartet and quintet configurations.
