Thursday, July 9, Bill Carrothers European Trio (9 pm, $10) |
|
Thursday, 09 July 2009 |
Bill Carrothers was raised in the Twin Cities, lives in the Upper Peninsula and is very popular in Europe. While it may sound like the plot of a Coen brothers movie, this is Bill’s real life (although the Coens may want to consider a treatment). Carrothers has been playing piano professionally for over 20 years, racking up an impressive résumé. He has performed at top venues and events like the Village Gate (NYC), the Knitting Factory (NYC), New Morning (Paris), and the Montreal Jazz Festival. His sound has earned him gigs with Joe Beck, Curtis Fuller, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Lee Konitz, Matt “Guitar” Murphy and Dewey Redman, to name a few. Billy's CDs as band leader display a sensitive and idiosyncratic style that is entirely absorbing. For this very special performance, Bill brings his European touring group to the AQ: Nic Thys (bass) and Dre Pallemaerts (drums). Their 3-city tour includes stops at the AQ, The Green Mill in Chicago and The Village Vanguard in NYC.
