Sunday, Sept 21, Sambanova CD release: Joan Griffith, Laura Caviani, Lucia Newel ... (7 pm, $10)

The Twin Cities Jazz Society Jazz From J to Z '08/'09 concert season will open with “Sambanova!,” a concert/CD release celebration of new Brazilian inspired music played by Joan Griffith and Laura Caviani. The duo will be accompanied by Gary Gauger on percussion, Clea Galhano on recorder,

and special guest Lucia Newell on vocals. “Sambanova” is also the title of the new CD of this music, which contains originals by Joan Griffith and Brazilian standards.
