Irv Williams should be entering the “Nostalgia Phase” of his career any day now. I mean, who could blame the tenor sax legend if he rested on his laurels after standing on his feet performing for most of his 89 years. Until then, Irv will undoubtedly continue to make some of the best music of his career, wrapping each tune with the wisdom of his years. His latest CD Finality was named one of the best local albums of the first half of 2008 by Chris Riemenschneider in the Star Tribune. The only jazz artist on the list, Irv is listed among rockers, hip hoppers and acoustic darlings who are, in some cases, less than a quarter of his age. But then again, true “cool” is timeless.
