Friday, February 1 - Saturday, February 2, Ari Hoenig & Jean-Michel Pilc Project (9 PM, $20). |
|
New York-based drummer Ari Hoenig and pianist Jean-Michel Pilc are artists frequently referenced in conversations on "where is jazz headed?" With their sweeping musical imaginations and precise-yet-atmospheric chops, these are young titans leading contemporary jazz to a very stimulating location. Hoenig's recently re leased CD Inversations (Dreyfus Jazz), with Pilc at the piano, is an entirely engaging collection of mostly original gems. Hoenig, raised in jazz-rich Philadelphia, has an intense, melodic style that led JazzTimes to call him one of the most "musical drummers in jazz." Pilc (raised in Paris) was described in the Chicago Tribune as "among the most accomplished and stylistically daring jazz pianists working today." Truly a "must see" pair of stars. Between them, Hoenig and Pilc have worked with Pat Martino, Joshua Redman, Roy Haynes and many more! Listen to some samples, Ari Hoenig has a mysace page at www.myspace.com/arihoenig and Jean-Michel Pilc has a myspace page at www.myspace.com/jmpilc
