Monday, December 3, Green (7 pm)/Poetry SLAM with special guest J.W. Baz (8 pm, $5) |
|
Green is a burning post-bop quartet featuring Zack Lozier on trumpet, Rob Dewey on piano, Rich Casey on bass, and Scotty Schultz on drums.
Soap Boxing Monthly Poetry Slam: Ten bards will set the mic on fire once more, as they engage in poetic battle, to dazzle the audience, win the judges hearts and scores, and emerge victorious.
Special Guest J. W. BAZ: Armed with a style once aptly described as "confessional swagger," J.W. Baz tackles everything from searing social commentary to gritty introspection with a generous spoonful of intensity and a dash of dry wit. In his first year on the national poetry scene, J.W. Baz was a finalist at the Individual World Poetry Slam, won the 2006 Rustbelt Regional Slam, and finished in the Top Ten at the 2006 National Poetry Slam as a member of Team Chicago. All things considered, he's doing pretty well for a guy who failed Creative Writing in high school.
December's Side event: The "I Hate The Holidays Haiku Battle" Anyone can compete - Bring at least 10 haiku
