Friday, September 7- Sunday, September 8, Dean Magraw & Anthony Cox (9 pm, $10) |
|
This is a convergence of two of the most gifted ax-wielders you will find in the Twin Cities – or anywhere else for that matter. Guitarist Dean Magraw is on a mission to “heal the broken dancer, confuse the boldest mathematician, and eradicate ennui in our lifetime.” His fluid, groove-infused, guitar magic engulfs the room, leaving a sonically mystical sheen in its wake. Dean’s world music influences and innate absorption of the dynamics around him make collaborations (like this one) especially dazzling. Anthony Cox is a bass player possessed of fierce talent with an uncanny hold on musical interplay. During stints with Joe Lovano, Stan Getz, Steve Lacy and others, Anthony has gained a well-deserved international reputation as one of the most inventive and simpatico bass players in jazz. Together, the music of Cox & Magraw is pure power.
