Bill Evans
Pianist and composer Bill Evans (1929 -1980), became well known to the jazz world in the 1950s as pianist for the Miles Davis Sextet. He left Davis to pursue his own music, buImaget returned to make essential contributions to the Davis classic Kind of Blue. Evans formed a trio in 1959 with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. The interplay that caught the imagination of jazz audiences remained a hallmark throughout Evans’ career, which saw him in trios with other top names including Philly Joe Jones, Eddie Gomez, Jack DeJohnette and many more. Evans recorded more than fifty albums as leader. His notable collaborations included recordings with such artists as Cannonball Adderley, Tony Bennett, Toots Thielemans, Jim Hall and Stan Getz. Evans received five Grammy awards as well as a posthumously awarded Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award following his death.  September 15th marks the 30th year since his passing.Image

The tribute will feature pianist Chris Lomheim with Image Chris Bates on bass and Jay Epstein on drums. Its going to be a very exciting and beautiful night of Evans Originals and a couple standards that Bill made his own with his trademark arrangements.

One of the most sensitive and expressive pianists in town,  Chris Lomheim was a founding member of The Illicit Sextet. His own trio gigs (including the recording The Bridge) demonstrate a monster imagination and talented intensity that make him one of a kind.
