Image Vibraphone master Dr. David Hagedorn is an Artist in Residence in the Music Department at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he teaches percussion, jazz studies and world music.  He studied with, and has toured nationally with, George Russell and appeared on Russell's recordings So What and The African Game.  Pianist and composer Dan Cavanagh is a former student of Hagedorn's. Dan graduated magna cum laude from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Theory/Composition. In 2004, Cavanagh received a master's of music degree in jazz studies from the University of Oregon, and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Jazz Studies award upon graduation.  Cavanagh has garnered numerous awards for his compositions, including Winner of the International Music Prizes for Excellence in Composition 2009 (sponsored by the National Academy of Music), a First Music Commission from the New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band Classic program, Honorable Mention in the 2007 Gil Evans/IAJE Commissioning Program, and Finalist in the 2002, 2005, and 2008 ASCAP Young Jazz Composers competitions. He has also been awarded ASCAPLUS awards for numerous performances of his works each year since 2004. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas Arlington, where he directs the jazz ensemble and teaches jazz composition and improvisation. He is active as a pianist and composer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

An free opening set at 7 p.m. features the Tesfa Combo and an open jam session. The Tesfa Combo features Dejen Tesfagiorgis on Saxophones, Steve Kenny on Trumpet, David Feily on Guitar/Trumpet, Jesse Mueller on Piano, Adam Tucker on Bass, and Aaron Rupar/Scorry Horey on Drums.
