Tuesday, May 25, Cory Wong Quartet (7 pm)/ Schimke, Franze and Horst(9 pm, $5)
Monday, 24 May 2010

ImageDowntown ImageBill Brown is out of town this week, but Peter Schimkehas kindly agreed to play piano this tuesday night. Peter Schimke is of the Twin Cities most in-demand piano players, whose career began in the heady rock scene of the late 70s / early 80s as drummer with The New Psychenauts. Peter has gone on to perform with people like Mark Murphy, Billy Preston, Mike Gordon of Phish and pretty much every top jazz musician in the Twin Cities (as well as serving as producer for Rita Coolidge and others).

Billy Franze is an excitable/ exciting firebrand on guitar - a veteran of Dr. Mambo's Combo who has worked with folks like Ben Sidran, Johnny Lang, Mavis Staples and Prince. He is also the front-man the Artists' Quarter's Tueday BightImage Band, a popular organ/guitar combo that plays weekly. For this gig Billy Franze is joined by a world class rhythm section featuring Schimke on piano, a to-be-named bass player, and Kenny Horst on drums.

ImageThe Artists' Quarter's hottest night opens with the Cory Wong Quartet featuring Zach W. Schmidt on drums, Cory J. Wong on guitar, Andy Schuster on bass and Dan M. Musselman on piano  starting at 7:00 P.M. These young, talented musicians provide the perfect prelude to the AQ's longest standing engagement.
