ImageDoug Haining Quartet celebrates Duke's 110th birthday. One of the most celebrated jazz composers and bandleaders of all time, Duke Ellington wrote or co-wrote some of the most memorable tunes in American music. On April 29th at the Artists Quarter in St. Paul,  noted Twin Cities’ saxophonist Doug Haining celebrates Ellington’s birthday with a tribute to the Duke and his renowned alto man, Johnny Hodges. Haining will be joined by a stellar rhythm section of pianist Rick Carlson, bassist Keith Boyles and drummer Jay Epstein. This quartet’s deep knowledge of the repertoire of Ellington and Hodges will be reflected in their sets at Artists Quarter as they present the most beloved as well as some of the less familiar works of these seminal artists. The music begins at 9 pm and the cover is a mere $5.
