New Year's Eve with Carole Martin has been a popular AQ tradition since 1995. Carole is the Twin Cities pre-eminent torch song singer, packing an emotional punch with elegant stage stylings.
For over 50 years, saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, and composer Dave Karr has been performing with many of the best national and Twin Cities jazz artists. Whether he’s in the orchestra of a touring Broadway hit, providing flourishes to the shows of top Twin Cities singers, leading his Gerry Mulligan tribute band on baritone sax or fronting his own quartet, Karr is a standout. “[Dave's] fluid style is both exciting and elegant,” notes jazzpolice.com. He’s also a great joke teller.

Tuesday, December 30, SWMP&M (7 pm)/ The Tuesday Night Band (9 pm, $5)

The Artists' Quarter's hottest night opens with an exciting band featuring Zach W. Schmidt, Cory J. Wong, Cassie Meyer, Jose Pena and Dan M. Musselman starting at 7:00 P.M. These young, talented musicians provide the perfect prelude to the AQ's longest standing engagement. Check this recent video

Then, for the main event sample some 'organic cookin' with the Tuesday Night Band. Hammond B-3 organ lovers have been flocking to the AQ on Tuesday nights for over a decade to get a soulful dose of funky jazz. The Tuesday Night Band features "Downtown" Bill Brown (Hammond B-3), Billy Franze (guitar), and Kenny Horst (drums) + guests! Anything can happen - and frequently does. Headspace, featuring Rob Dewey on piano, Nick Haas on guitar, Rich Casey on bass and Spencer McGinnis on drums provide
deep sonic explorations, probing the farthest reaches with finely tuned instruments. Two sets, beginning at 7:30pm. No cover. Every Monday - except the first Monday of the month.

Open mic is really open. Come do your thing - read your poetry, sing, tell jokes whatever. Your 15 minutes of fame awaits. No cover charge.

Available for Private Events The Artists' Quarter is a great place to hold your company or personal party. It is perfect for groups of up to 150 people who want a state of the art sound system, concert grand piano, amplifiers, PA system and more. Friday, December 26 - Saturday, November 27, Bill Carrothers Trio (9 pm, $10)

Living on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Bill Carrothers likes to get away to warmer climates in the winter. The Twin Cities (where Bill grew up) is one of those balmy destinations. Carrothers has been playing piano professionally for over 20 years, racking up an impressive résumé. He has performed at top venues and events like the Village Gate (NYC), the Knitting Factory (NYC), New Morning (Paris), and the Montreal Jazz Festival. His sound has earned him gigs with Joe Beck, Curtis Fuller, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Lee Konitz, Matt “Guitar” Murphy and Dewey Redman, to name a few. Billy's CDs as band leader display a sensitive and idiosyncratic style that is entirely absorbing.
