Friday, March 30 - Saturday, March 31, Carole Martin & Debbie Duncan (9 pm, $10)
ImageSome ideas are so good that you never think of them. Fortunately, someone thought of this. Carole Martin and Debbie Duncan are sharing the stage for the first time, bringing together two of the Twin Town’s most captivating singers and most commanding stage presences. Martin was an adored nightclub chanteuse in the 1960s before taking an extended sabbatical from the stage. She came back in style, releasing two outstanding CDs since 2004. Her pure alto voice and emotional mastery of torch songs reaches deep into the psyche. Duncan, a star around these parts since arriving in the mid-1980s, mixes jazz, soul, Gospel and R&B with one of the most powerfully moving voices anywhere. Carole’s elegance and charisma meeting up with Debbie’s all-class-and-lots-of-sass audience rapport. Expect lots of standards on an exceptional weekend.

Thursday, March 29, Pete Whitman’s X-Tet (9 pm, $6)
ImageSaxophone maestro Pete Whitman gathers nine of his most talented friends for a monthly Thursday performance at the AQ. Their 2002 Artegra release Where's When? received a four-star salute from Downbeat magazine. The all-star cast includes Laura Caviani on piano, the rhythm axis of Gordy Johnson (bass) and Phil Hey (drums), Dave Hagedorn on vibes, and a horn section roll call of Dave Karr, Dave Milne & Pete Whitman (saxes), Steve Wagner & Dave Jensen (trumpets), and Jeff Rinear (trombone).

Wednesday, March 28, F-K-G - Scott Fultz, Adam Linz, Dean Granros & Dave King (9 pm, $4)

Image"Four of our of the most inventive musicians in town gather together now and then as FKG. Or maybe it should now be FKGL? F is Scott Fultz, a multi-talented saxophonist (and software engineer) who has played at one time or another with Bill Carrothers, Anthony Cox, Bruce Henry, Hale Smith, Steve Barta, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, IMP-ORK, The Cedar Avenue Big Band, and the Jazz Is Now Orchestra. K is Dave King, the wildly creative percussion king who anchors the Bad Plus and Happy Apple. G is Dean Granros, guitarist divine who is making his third appearance at the AQ this month alone. Add to this trio the virtuoso bass of Adam Linz, often heard at the AQ and elsewhere with Fat Kid Wednesdays and many other bands. There is no predicting where this band will go tonight." - Andrea Canter, JazzPolice.com

Tuesday, March 27, B-3 Organ Night with the Tuesday Night Band ($4)

Image For more than a decade, B-3 organ lovers have been flocking to the AQ on Tuesday nights for a soulful dose of funky jazz. The Tuesday Night Band has been hitting an ever-deeper groove of late. If you haven't checked it out in a while, it's time. "Downtown" Bill Brown (Hammond B-3), Billy Franze (guitar), Gary Berg (sax) and Kenny Horst (drums) + guests!
