It's nothing but a party every Tuesday night. There's no stopping the groove.

Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19, Anthony Cox, Phil Hey and Chris Lomheim , (9 pm, $10)
ImageIn  New York, Bassist Anthony Cox developed an international reputation. His resume includes stints with Joe Lovano, Stan Getz, Steve Lacy and Ed Blackwell, as well as recordings with Dewey Redman, Sam Rivers, Geri Allen, Arthur Blythe, and Uri Caine, among others.  ImageSince returning to the Twin Cities, he has shared the stage with his own ensembles (including  Carnatic Energy,) and in the company of such heavy hitters as Dave King, the Grismore Scea Group and more. Drummer Phil Hey is a hard bop beat keeper with the power of a prizefighter, in that elegant Ali style that incorporates grace and cunning. ImageNamed "Best Jazz Artist" of 2006 by City Pages, Phil was raised in the jazz drumming factory that is Philadelphia. His road work with the likes of Jay McShann, Dewey Redman and Benny Golson says a lot about the esteem he has gathered. Pianist Chris Lomheim was a member of The Illicit Sextet, and his own trio gigs (including the recording The Bridge) demonstrate a monster imagination and talented intensity that make him one of a kind.

Thursday, July 17, Phil Hey Quartet (9 pm, $5)
ImageImageThe Phil Hey Quartet features Dave Hagedorn on vibes, Phil Aaron on piano, Tom Lewis on bass and Phil on drums and has been an Artists' Quarter favorite for the past 6 years. No surprise really. This is a no-nonsense, uncompromising band of local jazz greats regularly performing the tunes of Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Hutcherson, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter and others.   Over the years they have attracted a loyal following of hardcore jazz fans and students who show up on the monthly Thursday night when they perform. Check out these videos from a recent AQ performance:
