 ImageA 2008 booking at Joe’s Pub in NYC resulted in a New York Times review that embraced both Happy Apple’s music and their iconoclastic humor.  Writer Ben Ratliff proclaimed, “Funny as the men were to watch, this was one of the most serious groups I’ve ever seen.”  ImageTheir recent (and seventh) CD release, Happy Apple Back on Top (Sunnyside Records), is a first-class, category-defying platter from the Twin Cities band with the international fan base.  Dave King (The Bad Plus) on drums, Michael Lewis (Fat Kid Wednesdays) on sax and Erik Fratzke (Zebulon Pike) on bass.

An early set at 7 p.m. features "The Tesfa Quintet" with Dejen Tesfagiorgis on Saxophones, Adam Meckler on Trumpet, Jesse Mueller on Piano, Adam Tucker on Bass, and Jaky Nyberg on Drums. 

The David Roos  Quartet features David Roos on guitar, Steve Kenny on trumpet,Tom Lewis on bass and Kenny Horst on drums. David Roos is a first-Imagerate jazz guitarist and performs with a variety of musicians in a variety of places. David led The Crystal Trio on an inaugural world cruise from L.A. to London held by Crystal Cruise Lines. He was a founding member and contributing composer for the Twin Cities-based jazz collective The Illicit Sextet. He is also the founder and leader of Exquisite Corps, which features  bassist Jeff Brueske and drummer Eron Woods.  When Dave plays, everyone sits down and listens.
