Friday, November 14 - Saturday, November 15, Dean Magraw Organ Trio (9 pm, $10)
Friday, 14 November 2008

ImageGuitarist Dean Magraw joins up with Mikkel Romstad (Hammond B-3 organ) and Kenny Horst (drums) for a new way to blow your mind. Metaphors abound when discussing the virtuosity of Magraw, and his layering of musical paintings on the rich, textured canvas of the B-3 is just for starters. ImagePerhaps more appropriately, Magraw’s shaman-like world-music aura settles blissfully atop the soaring, sometimes fluttering, magic carpet ride of the Hammond. ImageDamn good music, too.

Dean Magraw is more than a guitar virtuoso.  His utter unity with the instrument creates a musical experience that emanates from the stage, but cascades over the room in sheets of rejuvenating spirit.

Thursday, November 13, Phil Hey Quartet (9 pm, $5)
Thursday, 13 November 2008
ImageImageThe Phil Hey Quartet features Dave Hagedorn on vibes, Phil Aaron on piano, Tom Lewis on bass and Phil on drums and has been an Artists' Quarter favorite for the past 6 years. No surprise really.  This is a no-nonsense, uncompromising band of local jazz greats regularly performing the tunes of Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Hutcherson, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter and others.Image  Over the years they have attracted a loyal following of hardcore jazz fans and students who show up on Imagethe monthly Thursday night when they perform. Check out these videos clips from recent AQ performances: Keith Jarret's "Questar" and Ronnie Matthews' classic modal piece, "Dorian".
