Saturday, January 2, Billy Franze Quartet (9pm, $10)
Friday, 01 January 2010

ImageImageBilly Franze is an excitable/ exciting firebrand on guitar - a veteran of Dr. Mambo's Combo who has worked with folks like Ben Sidran, Johnny Lang, Mavis Staples and Prince. He is also the front-man the Artists' Quarter's Tueday Bight Band, a popular organ/guitar combo that plays weekly. For this gig Billy Franze is joined by a world class rhythm section featuring Peter Schimke on piano, Billy Peterson on bass, and Kenny Horst on drums.

ImagePeter Schimke is of the Twin Cities most in-demand piano players, whose career began in the heady rock scene of the late 70s / early 80s as drummer with The New Psychenauts. ImagePeter has gone on to perform with people like Mark Murphy, Billy Preston, Mike Gordon of Phish and pretty much every top jazz musician in the Twin Cities (as well as serving as producer for Rita Coolidge and others).Twin Cities star bassist Billy Peterson, has played with everyone. Peterson is almost always on the road, so it is always a treat when he plays the home club. Solid drummer Kenny Horst, who also has a impressive resume, will keep things swinging.
