Friday, October 5- Saturday, October 6, Dean Granros Trio (9 pm, $10)
Friday, 05 October 2007
Image Dean Granros is a guitarist of mind-bending skill.  Whether he's putting his own esoteric spin on a Monk tune or redefining a standard, his expansive musical vision, daunting precision and colorful use of harmonics make him a one-of-a-kind artist.  “Granros blends the vocabulary of bebop, acid rock, and delta blues into a delightful and potent cocktail that may leave you shaken or stirred,” said Don Berryman at jazzpolice.comImageFrom the New York band Curlew in the late 1970s to current projects like How Birds Work, Starry Eyed Lovelies and F*K*G, Dean is one of those guys who the best musicians love to work with, and he inspires each one of them.  Tom Lewis (bass) and Kenny Horst (drums) will be digging in with Dean. Check out this  video clip of the Dean Granros Trio.

Thursday, October 4, Dave Karr Quartet (9 pm, $5)
Thursday, 04 October 2007
ImageFor over 50 years, saxophonist/ flutist/ clarinetist/ composer Dave Karr has been performing with many of the best national and Twin Cities jazz artists. Growing up in New York City, Karr took in some of the great jazz legends like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and from that he got the bug. Karr moved to the Twin Cities in his twenties, and has long established himself as one of the best-loved players (and characters) in the local jazz scene. JazzPolice.com nails it on the head, saying that Dave's "fluid style is both exciting and elegant."

Check out this video of Dave Karr performing "Zoot Walks In" at the Arists Quarter.
