Sunday September 30, Davis Wilson's “Lord Buckley Runs Wild” + Dean Granros Trio (8:00 p.m, $6).

Image Davis Wilson, the dapper & hip greeter at the door of the AQ, channels his inner Buckley for this second edition of the live rant. Lord Buckley came to cult prominence in the 1950s with an underground elocution revolution. His elegantly proper manner only accentuated his Love & Mercy philosophical bent, laying down beatnik speechification to the sounds of jazz. Davis Wilson, who has achieved his own underground fame in the basement of the Historic Hamm Building, is a spot-on preserver of the Buckley tradition. Lords and Ladies, you’ll be pleased and flipped to witness the Wilson enchantment, accompanied by musical sorcerers The Dean Granros Trio. All you lords and ladies, hep cats and cool kitties will be "pleased and flipped" that you made the scene.

Friday, September 28 - Saturday, September 29, Gary Berg Quartet (9 pm, $10)

ImageGary Berg is well known to AQ fans as the master of the saxes in the Tuesday Night Band. A soulful and hard bopping horn man, Gary is also known to take a moving turn on the chromatic harmonica.  Mr. Berg can also be heard playing on a slew of current local recordings including Pieces of Dreams by Carole Maritn, ImageThis is Organ Night by Billy Holloman, Blanket of Blue by Paula Lammers, Deja Vu by Francine Roche, and The Highest Mountain by George Avaloz.   Jonathan Francis of The MAC Weekly states:"... Gary Bergs solos are masterpieces of wit and charm, bop-driven and infused with soul ... Charlie Parker meets old school rhythm-and-blues meets 60's hard bop." Come hear Gary as he leads his quartet through the musical landscape of bebop, hard bop, and soul-jazz.  It’s always a rewarding ride when Gary takes the wheel and drives that jazz bus through his own headlining gigs.

Thursday, September 27, Pete Whitman’s X-Tet (9 pm, $6)
ImageImageSaxophone maestro Pete Whitman gathers nine of his most talented friends for a monthly Thursday performance at the AQ. Their 2002 Artegra release Where's When? received a four-star salute from Downbeat magazine. The all-star cast includes Laura Caviani on piano, the rhythm axis of Gordy Johnson (bass) and Phil Hey (drums), Dave Hagedorn on vibes, and a horn section roll call of Dave Karr, Dave Milne & Pete Whitman (saxes), Steve Wagner & Dave Jensen (trumpets), and Jeff Rinear (trombone).

Wednesday, September 26, Brad Bellows and Dave Graf (9 pm, $4)

ImageValve trombonist and bandleader, Brad Bellows has been an active innovator on the local music scene. He is probably best best known as the founder and leader of Locally Damaging Winds, the Midwest's preeminent trombone ensemble which brings together the finest trombone talent to perform original arrangements. Brad has had a friendship and musical association with Eddie Berger spanning decades. Brad also plays euphonium and released a CD playing it in a duo with guitarist Dean Granros called Bear's Delight.

ImageDave Graf is of the most versatile and talented trombonists in the Twin Cities, Dave has worked in a wide range of musical settings: Dixieland, straight ahead jazz, salsa and Brazilian music, big bands, pit orchestras and recordings. He  has preformed with Dizzy Gillespie, Slide Hampton, Jack McDuff, the Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, and the Woody Herman Orchestra. He has appeared on Prairie Home Companion and with the St. Paul Ragtime Orchestra, Mandala, and the Steve Wright Big Band. Dave had an eleven-year association with the late trumpeter Red Wolfe in his Port of Dixie Jazz Band and Ellington Echo's (now led by  Percy Hughes).
