Coming to the AQ
Tuesday, July 28, SWMS&M (7 pm)/ The Tuesday Night Band (9 pm, $5)

ImageThe Artists' Quarter's hottest night opens with an great band featuring Zach W. Schmidt, Cory J. Wong, Cassie Meyer, Andy Schuster and Dan M. Musselman starting at 7:00 P.M. These young, talented musicians provide the perfect prelude to the AQ's longest standing engagement. Check this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrBd4wMzjGU

ImageThen, for the main event sample some 'organic cookin' with the Tuesday Night Band. Hammond B-3 organ lovers have been flocking to the AQ on Tuesday nights for over a decade to get a soulful dose of funky jazz.   ImageThe Tuesday Night Band features "Downtown" Bill Brown (Hammond B-3), Billy Franze (guitar), and Kenny Horst (drums) + guests!  Anything can happen - and frequently does.  Check out these videos:  "Soulful Drums" www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGnLyYYPspE  and  "Rock Candy":   www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcoIeG7RkAM  - then come on down and join the fun. It's nothing but a party every Tuesday night. There's no stopping the groove.

Tuesday night drink specials: $2.50  tap beers and rail drinks from 11 p.m. until midnight!

Wed, July 29, Zacc Harris, Matt Peterson, Pete Hennig CD Release Party (9 pm, $5)

This group’s weekly Sunday night residency at the Riverview Wine Bar in Mpls. has spurred many requests for their CDs. Being artists more than merchants, the trio had no wares for sale. Eventually, however, supply catches up with demand (and there is no need to overly explore the relationship between jazz and microeconomics here). Into the studio they went, and out came an excellent new CD with standards and originals, some straight ahead jazz and some curvy lines. To market, lads. Zacc Harris (guitar), Matt Peterson (bass) and Pete Hennig (drums).Image

Guitarist Zacc Harris is a Twin Cities jazz musician, composer, and instructor. Since moving to Minneapolis in 2005, Harris has become a leading voice in the jazz community, fronting groups such as Atlantis Quartet, Monk In Motian, Vital Organ, and the Zacc Harris Trio.  He has toured nationally and been featured on more than a dozen commercially released albums.

Thursday, July 3-, Pete Whitman's X-tet (9 pm, $8)
ImageSaxophone maestro Pete Whitman gathers nine of his most talented friends for a monthly Thursday performance at the AQ with dazzling charts and musical telepathy.  ImageEven with ten members performing, you find yourself pondering where all those perfectly-placed, sonorous pearls are coming from. When you review the roster of first-call pros on stand, you answer your own question.  Their 2002 release Where’s When? received a 4-star salute from Downbeat.  ImageThe all-star cast includes Laura Caviani on piano, Phil Hey on drums,Gordy Johnson on bass, Dave Hagedorn on vibes, a horn section roll call of Dave Karr, Dave Milne & Pete Whitman (saxes), Dave Jensen & Kelly Rossum (trumpets), and Jeff Rinear (trombone).  Videos:

Friday, July 31 - Saturday, August 1, Chris Morrisey Quartet (9 pm, $12).

ImageImageBassist Chris Morrissey is a double threat. Indie rock or jazz – he’s got it covered. Bass or vocals – he’s got it covered. He’s been heard with folk-leaning rock darling Haley Bonar and with wildly popular artists like Andrew Bird and Mason Jennings. ImageChris has put together an all-star cast of genre bending musicians to explore the universe of the mind. Chris Morrissey (bass), Dave King (drums), Michael Lewis (sax), and Bryan Nichols (piano).
